ExCave is a research project sponsored by API and Legacoop Modena to offer municipalities, management and citizens a reflection about transformation of disused quarries in the modenese area. Ludens was the curator of the project. We activated some public events aiming to involve the local population and to deal with an European perspective.
Starting from main existing experiences, first step of ExCave was the organization of a conference-day in Modena presenting some of the most significant European case-histories.
For this event, called Nuove Ecologie, we called Floris Alkemade (OMA), Jose Luis Vallejo (Ecosistema Urbano), Bernardo Secchi and Paola Viganò (IUAV), Dominique Ghiggi (Vogt Landscape Architects), Brigitte Scholz (IBAFürst-Pückler-Land) and many others ..
Projects and different experiences were presented all day long to show good practice about transormation of industrial landscape.
We also realized an installation outside Auditorium Marco Biagi during Nuove Ecologie, made by big pieces of concrete, usually used in quarries to hold sand or gravel.
An exhibition, an Atlas of modenese disused quarries and other events have to come in next months in Modena to keep on ExCave.
