The context of Allerød is a landscape formed by a plain moved by morainic hills about 30 meters in height. The elements that have attracted our attention were these gentle hills, the wooded masses and the presence of many small lakes. We have proposed a new district starting by some elements, some existing and some missing: environment, density, typological diversity, public space, proxemics.
The project area has been divided into two concentric zones
1) the sport area in the centre of the project, where the public and leisure program is enhanced implementing public function sport.
2) the residential area between the sports center and the outer periphery of the project area, like a ring.
Between the two there is the new main road of the new district which follows the path of an old one but forming a crown. This road serves the entire new neighborhood.
The residential zone is divided into two by the old turistic railroad:
A _ northern area, hilly and wooden
Here we place 3 circle ”ballatoio” buildings for. Ballatoio effect is reduced by the great amount of staircases and the opposite balconies work as a terraces, always facing south. Each apartment has a double facing living area, which provides natural ventilation and optimal enlightment.
The apartments are developed for compact modules and assembled to allow maximum flexibility of the system. The dimensions of the flats are calibrated on the structural regular grid and based on a “modulor”. Modularity can produce very simple, flexible and effective apartments. Where the building reaches 3/4 floors eight we find the penthouses: apartments with a 360° view on the surrounding landscape, a kind of vertical villa standing in the air.
B _ southern area, characterized by natural features depressions.
Here blocks, such as fragments, are arranged around the new small lakes. Many typologies are offered: buildings for apartments with garden at groundfloor and duplex apartments on top, different types of terraced houses, penthouses, semi-detached villas, so to accomodate different kinds of families.
Buildings are grouped in units consisting of three or four buildings characterized by a shared central space. We believe that the possibility of sharing space can create a spirit of neighborhood knowledge, mutual support among the new inhabitants of Allerød.
